Microsoft is adding extra ads to Start Menu in Windows 10

If you have Windows 10 installed on your computer, you have probably noticed the promoted apps in the start menu, which currently sits at a maximum of five. This summer though, this is about to change with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Microsoft has revealed that with this update, which is expected to land in July, the amount of promoted apps will increase from five to 10. Promoted apps are typically used on new PC’s as they encourage users to download apps from the Windows Store, though depending on the country you live in, the promoted apps will differ.

Some of these promoted apps are actually pre-installed, though they can be fully uninstalled and any promoted app tiles can be removed from the popular Start menu. Microsoft has not revealed why it has made this decision but it is likely that the company is using this to attract developers to the platform or as an extra source of revenue from companies that are willing to pay to be featured.

Either way, don’t expect to see this change before July, when the Anniversary Update is released. What do you think of the company’s decision? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to stay tuned for all the latest tech news!
