Other wearables are creeping up on Fitbit
Over the past few years wearable devices for tracking activity, etc have become very popular. Fitbit, one of the original wearable companies and sense 2007 they have had the lead on other companies. This could change as the market grows larger for these devices.
IDC tells us that Fitbit has dropped shares in the wearable market. IDC reports that in the first quarter of 2016 Fitbit reportedly has 24.5% of the wearable market shares , which is still above Xiaomi and Apple. But, this time, last year they had 32.6%. The market has had many additions, last year at this time Apple jumped into the market, causing Fitbit to work to keep its lead.
Fitbit continues to push new products including the Fitbit Blaze which compares to today's smartwatches. Fitbit is able to sell its activity trackers at lower prices than Apple because of all the technology in the Apple Watch. Some people just don't need all that technology and I think Fitbit will always have that lead on Apple. Fitbit will need to watch its back with companies like Garmin and Xiaomi, and keep releasing different products to "fit" different people.
