Mobile payments are coming to Fitbit

A few days ago we told you how although Fitbit is still ahead of other wearables, its competition is getting better and better. Fitbit has now purchased the majority of Coin, a universal credit card system to hopefully give the company a lead.

In the last year alone, mobile payment systems have become very popular, companies like Apple and Samsung all have their own system. Now Fitbit has purchased the majority of Coin and is hoping to add mobile payment systems to their devices. Engadget reported that Fitbit doesn't plan on adding the mobile payment system on their devices until at least 2017.

Fitbit is hoping to use Coin's technology and knowledge to create their own platform. Now, if you own a Coin card with the newest Coin 2.0 software, no need to panic. Your universal card will still work until the battery runs out in about 2 years (from the purchase date). Coin's other programs such as their rewards are slowly being shut down during the process.

The biggest wearable company in the world is hoping to protect itself from its competitors with this new move. Do you think this will help Fitbit? Let us know in the comments below.
