Motorola has filed for the "Moto Z" trademark in the US

A few weeks back, Evan Blass revealed on Twitter that Motorola would be rebranding its flagship line to Moto Z. A new discovery today further confirms this as the company has just filed to register the Moto Z trademark in the US.

It was only last week when Motorola revealed its new Moto G4 series. Later that day, Evan Blass made the announcement about the new Moto Z name and, further digging has revealed that on the same day of both announcements, Motorola actually filed for the trademark.

According to previous rumours, the Lenovo-owned smartphone manufacturer is currently planning the release of two Moto Z devices, most likely named the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play. Design wise, both devices will look near identical, with fingerprint scanners on the front and modular plates on the rear of the device.

As well as the conventional Moto Z line, the company is reportedly planning on selling the 2016 Verizon Droids as the Moto Z Play Droid Edition and Moto Z Style Droid Edition, though these plans could change by the time the devices are announced.

Aside from device naming schemes, other leaked info seems to point towards a June 9th announcement for both devices at Lenovo’s Tech World 2016 event in San Francisco.

As well as the date, thanks to HelloMotoHK, we also know the rumoured modules that will be sold alongside the devices. The modules are expected to be known as MotoMods and, at launch, a total of 6 will be made available: Pro Camera Mod, Adventure Mod, Theatre Mod, Stereo Mod, Power Mod and a Style Mod.

For now, this is everything we know, all we need now is the actual phone. What do you think of Motorola’s new naming scheme and modules? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to stay tuned for all the latest tech news!
