Limited number of Chromebooks that will support Android apps released

Not long ago, there were rumours about Google adding the ability to run Android apps on Chrome OS. To these rumours, there was a bit of truth and not long after that the rumours, Google stated on its blog that it would be bringing Google Play support to Chromebooks in June 2016 starting with Google’s own Chromebook pixel, the ASUS Flip, and Acer R11. With the recent statistics on Google Chromebooks outselling Macs in the US, the official addition of Android app support for Chromebooks brings numerous possibilities and may increase market sales even further. Some basic apps that lack Chrome OS versions such as Skype would finally be available for downloading on Chrome OS.

As good as this sounds, Google is not providing every Chromebook with the ability to run native Android apps. A list of Chromebooks that would receive support for this feature are listed on Google’s own help forums. The list surprisingly leaves out a lot of older models such as the most popular Acer C720 and even the flagship Chromebook Pixel from 2013. This is disappointing news for those looking forward to the update so eagerly. The developer community may be able to help by porting the feature to older or unsupported devices; also Google has stated they would continue to “update this list as new devices are added”. Hit the source link below to see the complete list of about 40 Chromebooks that would support Android apps later in 2016.
