Apple reportedly plans major changes for the Macbook Pro

Apple hasn't redesigned the Macbook Pro line since they came out with the retina display model in 2012, and lots of critics have said that it is time for a redesign. Well, those critics might get their wish as Apple could be planning a design refresh for the next model.

According to a research note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Ko and reported on by MacRumors, the 13 and 15-inch models would get a thinner and lighter design thanks to the new Macbook keyboard and hinges. They would also use USB-C connectors that have Thunderbolt 3 enabled.

Interestingly, Apple could make an unpredicted move and replace the top function keys with an "OLED display touch bar," which could add extra functionality to the Macbook Pro. Additionally, Apple is set to add their TouchID fingerprint sensors into the laptop, paving way for added security and better ease of use when purchasing things online (perhaps through Apple Pay?)

Kuo said that they're the "most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple" and is planned for a release in the fourth quarter of 2016, alongside a rumored 13-inch regular Macbook refresh. It is important to mention that Kuo has a good if not perfect record at predicting updates like this. However, the update might or might not be shown at Apple's WWDC event next month. For now, we just have to wait and see. Stay tuned to TechDependent for more coverage regarding Apple's new Macbooks and lots more news on our social media pages!
