ARM's new processors are great even without their VR capabilities

At this years Computex Taipei, ARM announced a new GPU and a new CPU that will arrive in high level smartphones next year. These new devices are aimed at having great support for VR. As virtual reality is becoming more and more common and powerful, you can't have any processor support it. You would need a special processor to do such task, and ARM wants to be one of the supporters of VR.

The new Mali-G71 GPU will need to be great to keep it at the most widely used GPU in the world according to ARM. This GPU is the first to support Bitfrost, ARM's 3rd generation architecture, the margins are greatly noticeable. The power is 20% more efficient and the graphics performance is 50% higher. There is also a 40% increase in performance per square millimeter compared to its older brother, last years GPU. As said before, this GPU is designed around problems that are commonly arose by VR such as the refresh rate and resolution. This GPU will be up in standards with powerful laptop GPU's.

The CPU, the Cortex A73 Core, is not as big of an upgrade as the GPU. It does have a 30% increase in power efficiency. While being power efficient it doesn't slow down, it also has almost double the amount of performance power.

You will see these chips in new devices starting in 2017. Be sure to check back for more information on this topic and all your other tech news here at TechDependent
