Huawei may be making a new Nexus

The Nexus ranges of phones have been a significant symbol for Android and its development. The phones come packed with Stock versions of the Android operating system as well as developer support. Look through forums on XDA and the likes and you would find many threads that allow modding and customization of the Nexus phones due to its ease. Last year Huawei and LG released Nexus devices with Huawei’s device coming on top due to its slightly superior hardware. The AMOLED screen along with 3GB of RAM, a powerful processor and a camera that most people would describe as the best makes Google’s flagship second to none.

At Huawei’s launch of its smartphones in South Africa, Huawei’s own general manager stated that the company is making another Nexus for Google. According to the statement:

“The Nexus product is a very niche product… the techies love it but there’s a very small number of people that buy it. Hence Cellucity only brought 300… into the country [ South Africa].…The operators generally don’t take up the Nexus device. That said, the distributors, our open market, do bring in the device, that’s how Cellucity got it… and that will still be the same this year. We’re doing the Nexus again this year, by the way.”

It is still not clear whether this directly implies a new nexus device as speculations point to an HTC nexus. Yet still both devices may be released so we wait for October to find out. What do you think of the announcement?
