Popular podcasting platform Stitcher is acquired for $4.5 million

Its said to be one of the biggest podcast platforms and smart radios outside the world of iTunes, and now Stitcher has been acquired by E.W. Scripps for a sum of $4.5 million. This new purchase follows the acquisition by Deezer which took place about a year and a half ago. Looking at Stitcher's statistics, there are over 8 million registered users and about 65,000 podcasts - and these are elements that have expanded the business to earn the rank as one of the largest podcast platforms.

Due to this acquisiton, Stitcher will now function as part of Midroll Media, which is a podcast advertising network which has also been acquired by E.W. Scripps. A few of the podcasting partners of the company are StarTalk with Neil Degrasse Tyson, and WTF with Marc Maron and Nerdist. This new move by E.W Scripps could open up a variety of business opportunities for it to excel in the future, but we'll have to see what they manage to do next.
