Samsung may launch a pair of phones with foldable displays next year
Ever since Samsung demoed foldable displays way back in 2013 at the annual CES event, the company has been rumoured to be launching a phone with exactly that, a foldable display. According to a report by Bloomberg though, the company may finally be preparing to launch a consumer-ready device next year.
The company is actually rumoured to be launching two phones, one of which offers 5-inch display that can then be unfolded into a tablet-size 8-inch screen. The devices, codenamed “Project Valley,” could be unveiled as early as February next year, most likely when MWC takes place in Barcelona.
Although many consumers may think that these devices are the first phones with bendable displays, they aren’t, as Samsung’s Edge devices already use bendable displays, the difference between these rumoured devices and the Edge line being that the Edge devices feature a fixed bend, whereas the rumoured devices will offer malleable displays.
“This product could be a game-changer if Samsung successfully comes up with a user interface suitable for bendable screens,”Lee Seung Woo, IBK Securities analyst, told Bloomberg.
“Next year is a probable scenario. Their biggest obstacle was related to making transparent plastics and making them durable, which seems resolved by now.” What do you think about the possibility of bendable phones?
