Microsoft announces the Xbox One S

Microsoft announced their newest version of their Xbox gaming console at E3 2016, the Xbox One S. Which, as the name suggests, is a slimmer version of the Xbox One. The One S is 40% smaller than the first-gen model, comes in a white color called "robot white" and it even has an integrated power supply, which gets rid of the bulky external one that the systems have been known for. Microsoft is also including a vertical stand to change up how you display the Xbox.

There is a lot more improvements to the One S than just design changes. For example, there is now 4K Ultra HD video support that includes 4K Ultra HD Bluray and HDR capability for gaming and video playback. Additionally, one of the USB ports has been moved to the front of the console for easy access, same with the controller pairing button as well as a new built-in IR blaster. Microsoft did remove one thing, though, and that is the dedicated Kinect sensor port. If you'd still like to use the Kinect for gaming or voice controls, you'd have to buy a USB adaptor to do so. Microsoft is saying that they will be launching a program to offer free adaptors to users who upgrade from the XBox One to the One S.

In a recent statement, Xbox lead Phil Spencer said on the changes to the new console "The Xbox One S for us was a realization that first, we want to make a smaller Xbox, but there was also some capability that we saw growing out in the market around HDR and 4K video," he later went on to say that " So we said, if we’re going to do an upgrade to our console, let’s go ahead and embrace some of the technologies that are coming and make those part of our core SKU.”

The One S isn't the only thing that has changed, the controller that comes along with the Xbox also gets the same "robot white" color as well as new textured grips on the back and the addition of Bluetooth. While the Bluetooth addition might not come as such a big deal, it could be for some users as it adds a better wireless range as well as adding the option to connect the controller to a Windows PC.

The Xbox One S will be available in August with limited time run that has a 2TB Hard Drive for $399, while two standard versions will launch later, one with a 500GB Hard Drive for $299 and a 1TB hard drive for $349.
