The worldwide developer conference (WWDC) by Apple has seen a host of announcements today. The conference which brings together many developers with an interest in Apple’s software and the operating system has taken off with major announcements and changes to Apple’s slew of software. One major highlight of the conference is the renaming of the desktop operating system OsX to MacOS. This comes as no surprise considering the pattern of naming other Apple products: iOS for the iPhone, watchOS for the Apple watch and tvOS for television. The new version of MacOS is codenamed “Sierra”. The new OS adds the ability to access items on the clipboard on other Apple devices, something like a universal clipboard. There also seems to be better iCloud synchronisation as old files will be synced to the web storage, freeing up disk space.

Another big highlight of the new MacOS is the introduction of Siri. Yes after years of Siri being introduced, the new MacOS will get it fully functional and on every capable Mac. The voice assistant for MacOS will be able to search through files stored locally and this is not withholding its existing features that are already available on iOS. This brings a lot of convenience to the desktop user as the voice commands are efficient with Siri, allowing a lot more to be done with just voice control. One feature that may not be so clear would be the ability to wake Siri up with a voice command without clicking on the Siri icon on the dock as seen on some iPhones. Stay tuned to TechDependent for more news on WWDC.
