iOS 10 looks like a big one

This Monday at Apple's annual WWDC, they announced many updates to their several operating systems. iOS seems to always be the most updated system, and that stays true this year. Many new features were released at the conference. Some of the top new features are listed below.

The new "Home" app is bridging the gap between the many "Smart Home" devices that you might use. You can now control all your compatible smart devices via this one app. You can access it from the new control center in iOS 10, and this app will also come onto WatchOS. Apple also told us that all this will be able to be controlled over iCloud, from anywhere.

Messages is also getting a large update (read more). According to The Verge, "Messages is the most frequently used app on iOS." One of the more interesting updates is "emojifiable" words, yes we know that is a mouthful. This feature is going to allow you to tap on words that have emojis to fit them and then the words will turn into that emoji. For example, if you type "basketball" then tap on it, it will turn into a basket ball emoji. Apple is also opening up Messages to developers to create message apps, which will be stored in your "Messages Drawer".

Similar to an Apple Watch, your iPhone will now have a "raise to wake feature" with iOS 10. When you pick up your phone and look at it, the onboard sensors will know this and wake the screen for you. This will make for easy quick viewing without the hassle of pressing the lock button.

Maps is getting a total refresh. According to Eddy Cue it's a "lot more proactive", it's going to be a lot more aware. For instance, if there is a lot of traffic where you plan to go, Maps will try to fix this. It will suggest a new route and tell you the benefits of taking this route. Like Messages, Maps will be open to developers. This means that you will be able to use third party app features inside of Maps. This new version of maps looks to be great. A new, clean, aware system will come with the new iOS.

Siri is also being opened up to developers along with the other we have talked about. This is going to be a big deal for Siri and will change the way lots of us use it. So now I will be able to tell Siri, "Tell Steven on Slack that I won't be on time for this morning's meeting." And then Siri will be able to control Slack, a third party communication app.

Some of the smaller updates include the following. 3D Touch should be used more with iOS 10, including on the lock screen. The universal clipboard will allow you to copy something such as a URL on one device and paste it on another. tvOS and iOS will be closer with the new feature that automatically downloads apps downloaded on iOS, to your tvOS device. The last smaller update is the new Apple TV Remote app on your iOS device. You can now use Siri on your Apple TV using the iOS remote app.

WWDC has given us a lot of information about many operating systems. iOS 10 looks to be a big update for the users of iOS and I think the users will like it. What do you think of iOS 10? Let us know in the comments below.
