One Plus RAM issue is not a fault

The flagship killer from One Plus seems to be making the news since its launch. First, the company gave out free VR headsets pre-launch, broke the exciting news that the device could be bought invite-free, and then announced the discontinuation of the One Plus X line. One Plus CEO Carl Pei is in the news once again but this time, it wasn’t for a good reason. Early buyers of the One Plus 3 have reported the phone’s inability to handle even three applications well due to a RAM “issue” which sounds weird due to the device’s massive 6GB RAM available. Developers at XDA made a few tweaks that seemed to fix the problem so far but some buyers are angry.

The CEO of One Plus, Carl Pei has made an announcement via social media platform Twitter that the RAM issue was, in fact, a tweak by the company to provide the “best user experience”. According to him, the modifications were made to save battery life. This means the phone uses less RAM than it came with so as to save some of its 3000mAh battery power. Many have criticized that decision as unnecessary; why fit in a large RAM if it wouldn’t be of use eventually? This may not be such a hopeless situation as with a few mods or with custom ROMS, a developer may be able to take advantage of all 6GB RAM. What do you think? Leave a comment.
