Huawei’s first laptop and Microsoft Surface competitor is officially heading to the US on July 11th starting at $699.

The laptop-tablet hybrid, announced back at Mobile World Congress, features a 12-inch display and weighs in at a mere 1.4 pounds, in fact, Huawei claims the device is the lightest on the market. As well as this, the device is extremely thin at 6.9mm. The device, considered to be the company’s first laptop, comes with a stylus pen accessory with Windows Ink support and 2,048 levels of pressure.

Regarding the screen, Huawei has managed to cram in an impressive 2,160 x 1,440 resolution, which, although impressive, is still not as sharp as the iPad Pro or the Surface Pro 4. Aside from the display, you’ll be able to choose between three processors, the core M3, M5 and M7, alongside either 4GB or 8GB of RAM. Regarding internal storage, the hybrid is available in storage options from 128GB to 512GB SSDs.

Huawei isn’t necessarily known for premium designs, but the company has proven it is capable of producing them with its high-end smartphones and with the MateBook’s aluminium unibody, it’s clear the company has learnt a lot from its other high-end devices. On a related note, the company has managed to incorporate a Windows Hell-compatible fingerprint sensor on the side. It's also shipping with Windows 10 Signature Edition in the US.

Although the MateBook is being marketed as a hybrid, the company is charging an additional $129 for the MateBook's keyboard. The Stylus will cost $59 and the MateDock, which includes two USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, HDMI and VGA, will cost $89.

In case you are interested in the device, you can pre-order the MateBook today from the Microsoft Store, though it’ll be available at other retailers starting July 11. The $699 MateBook comes with a Core M3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, though currently you can go all the way up to a Core M5 chip, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD for $1,199.
