Incipio is purchasing Skullcandy for $177 million

Incipio, a company famous for its wide variety of smartphone accessories, has announced that it is to acquire headphone manufacturer Skullcandy, allowing the company to further extend its range of accessories.

In the past, Incipio has purchased a number of other case makers and also has licensing deals with other brands, meaning its acquisition of the headphone maker will only solidify the company’s position in the market.

The deal itself consists of Incipio paying $5.75 per share for Skullcandy which works out to a total of around $177 million.

In case you are worried about the future of Skullcandy, there’s no need to fret. Incipio has no plans to fold the brand name into itself of stopping production, meaning Skullcandy products will still be available with the Skullcandy name on them.

Aside from headphones though, it’s possible we may see some crossover products too, considering Skullcandy has released a few smartphone cases before. Overall though, the deal is probably beneficial for both companies.
