Samsung is working on 'smartglow' notification light that is interestingly placed
While most phones have a multi-color notification light either in the front near the top of the phone, or the phone has an 'always on display' that will show the notifications when they pop up on the display itself. Samsung is looking to change the game up however, as a recently leaked image shows they they are planning on adding a notification light on the back, surrounding the camera.
As seen in the picture above, and according to SamMobile, the 'smartglow' LED notification light serves as a "lowing ring around the rear camera lens" that will alert the user of different notifications. Some instances could be the ring glowing a certain color for a contact text or call, similar to what is found on the Galaxy S7 edge. It could also blink for the standard reasons, such as low battery, or other missed notifications. Also according to SamMobile, the smartglow ring could be used for high-resolution selfies, such as lighting up blue when a face is detected.
Also according to SamMobile, there will be two new features included with the ring called HealthRing and WeatherRing. For the WeatherRing, it will light up to alert you if the weather will be nice, or if it will turn bad quickly. The action to display what the weather will be like is by shaking the phone. An example of what light would displayed could be sunny weather via a yellow hue and rainy weather by a blue hue. SamMobile wasn't clear on how the HealthRing would work, however.
Do you think that the supposedly new feature will be useful and/or help them gain or lose sellers? Most people could find this very useful since they can put the phone facing down instead of having it face forward to see the LED blinker.
