LG pairs up with Volkswagen for connected cars

LG and Volkswagen. Now, that might seem as an unusual pairing between two companies. For starters, one is a electronics company and the other is an automobile manufacture. However, it is not as weird as it seems as both LG and Volkswagen are working together on a connected car platform over the next few years. Alongside with the usual infotainment updates the pair will make, they are aiming for integration with smart home services.

According to Volkswagen, the system would let you "control and monitor smart devices in their homes, such as lights, security cameras, and domestic appliances -- from out on the road." While the feature could be promising, the same method has been already offered to the consumer via their smartphone and other internet connected device. It will be interesting if LG and Volkswagen can put a different spin on the system, and potentially make it better.

Additionally, the system will deliver a "context-sensitive notification center" which will send messages to drivers safely. Again, this is something that has already been out to the consumer in infotainment systems, such as Google's Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay. Maybe LG and Volkswagen can come up with a way that would make it better than what is already offered. Reuters is pointing out that LG is already offering batteries and audio systems to VW's cars, as well as building battery cells and electric motors for Chevrolet's Bolt electric car.
