Microsoft's all-new Stream: The business-focused video service

Are you one of those guys that like to share videos with your colleagues but unfortunately can’t due to Internet restrictions at the office? Well it looks like Father Christmas has been early for you this time. Meet Microsoft Stream.

Technology and engineering giant, Microsoft, announced its new video service for business known as Stream, which will enable organisations and their employees to communicate and collaborate with videos more easily.

Earlier this year, they announced their new approach to business apps and have clearly stated that their ambition is to remove barriers, encourage innovation and ultimately empower everyone in an organisation with better ways to get work done. Microsoft Stream team will build on this vision, enabling business users to harness the power to achieve more at work.

Microsoft Stream wants to give the same flexibility that YouTube and Vimeo offers to users with added security features. The applications for this product are limitless. Some basic uses can be training or communication, just to name a few.

Microsoft may have already attempted this by creating Office 365 Video, but James Phillips, corporate VP at Microsoft, has stated that: “Microsoft Streams builds upon the learning success of Office 365 Video and over time the two experiences will converge with a seamless migration to ensure a consistent experience both within and outside of Office 365”, in the official announcement notes. Phillips also adds that Stream will leverage more of Microsoft’s existing technologies to offer a more consumer-like experience and that in the future, there might be support for live streaming.

The best part about Stream is that it treats the videos like every other enterprise document. For them, a video is just like any other digital artifact and they can assign rights to videos, set access groups, remove access and ensure that videos are not shared outside the company.

Think that this might be the ultimate tool for the success of your company? Head to the Microsoft Stream website to try it out now for free.
