Facebook Messenger hits one billion monthly active users

What started in a university dorm at Harvard university is now used by 1/7th of the world population. Facebook is undoubtedly the most famous social network on the planet and one of its services has just reached a milestone.

Facebook Messenger has just hit 1 billion monthly active users. After boasting 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store a year ago, it has finally reached the ‘3 Comma Club’ of the Internet in terms of monthly active users.

Another subsidiary company of Facebook, WhatsApp, has already entered the club several months ago. So Messenger is still trying to rival with its in-house competitor.

To celebrate this milestone, Facebook made a celebration video and is adding a small floating balloon animation whenever you send a balloon emoji to someone.
