Microsoft Gaming Sales Decrease By 9% From Last Year

It’s looking like Microsoft has some catching up to do as its Xbox and gaming revenue has seen a 9 percent year-over-year decline in the second quarter of 2016.

Microsoft has attributed this fall in revenue due to the decrease in prices of the Xbox One. This equated to a $152 million decrease during its fiscal fourth quarter. Microsoft could be aiming to liquidate current stock as the slimmer Xbox One S is about to hit stores. At E3, Microsoft officially announced its entrance in the VR console world by introducing Project Scorpio and it is kind of powerful for a console.

The Xbox One has had a slow start to replace the Xbox 360. When released, it was more expensive than the competing PS4 by $100 and was bundled with the Kinect. The Kinect had difficulties with the tracking and Microsoft quickly dropped it from the system. Many people also had complaints that the Kinect was always on and listening which caused a problem of privacy.

Even though the Xbox Live has hit 49 million users, revenue continue to decrease. Microsoft hopes that the Xbox One S will turn the tide and make the sales figures go up again. The Xbox One S will be a slimmer and slightly powerful version of the Xbox One, will be available for purchase on August 2nd. The One S carries a new design, and is 40 percent smaller in size than the Xbox One.

You’ll also notice that the console is no longer black. Instead, Microsoft has given the S an all-white hard plastic body with perforated holes on one side. It is also much sleeker than before and houses the Power supply inside the body. The 2TB Xbox One S Launch Edition will cost you $399, the 1TB version will cost $349, and the 500GB version will be $299.
