Samsung Sues Huawei For Patent Infringement
Tech giant Samsung announced on Friday that a lawsuit has been lodged against Huawei for patent infringements through multiple courts in China, escalating a legal conflict between the two companies. The company that was once sued by Apple Inc. for patent infringement is ironically now on the offensive side.
The world’s No. 1 smartphone maker is demanding $24.1 million in damages as well as stopping production and sales of the Huawei Mate 8 and several other Honor handsets.
Such a case between the two companies is not new. Huawei had actually sued Samsung, earlier this year, concerning 4G technology and system software. However, Samsung launched a counter-suit against Huawei, who then responded with another $12 million lawsuit.
CIMB analyst Lee Do-hoon said that Huawei might use this lawsuit to make some noise and sort of make some free publicity about its products.
