Samsung VR expert moves to Google

At Google I/O this year the company announced Daydream. No, this is not the Daydream mode that was present on pre-Jelly Bean devices that allowed the device to fade in and out a slideshow of the clock when being charged. The new addition is Google’s own mobile virtual reality platform which hopes to bring most Android content to virtual reality by combining VR ready handsets with Google-made VR headsets. The move is a good one considering Google is now venturing into what is now becoming the next big thing in tech. Hopefully Google’s Daydream and its hardware would become a standard in virtual reality much like the Nexus line is currently.

Google is doing a good job also of assembling a team to make this dream a reality. News reaching TechDependent indicates that Google has hired a former Samsung expert on VR, Matt Apfel. Matt Apfel was part of the content strategy for Samsung’s VR team till March this year. With this addition to the team it seems Daydream would in fact bring something good to the table, perhaps competition for Samsung, HTC and the Oculus. Daydream will be released later this year.
