You will soon be enjoying glasses-free 3D movies

If you are tired of wearing those goofy glasses for a 3D movie experience, a team from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab and Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science have created a prototype display that lets audiences watch 3D movies glasses-free. The technology which is changing so rapidly nowadays is bringing new features with it like dubbed Cinema 3D, employs a complex series of 50 mirrors and lenses that allow viewers to see the same high-resolution 3-dimensional image from any seat in a theater without the hassle of those pesky plastic lenses.

Also there are drawbacks to 3D movies: cinematically, the polarizing glasses also result in darker, less vibrant perception of the movie, to say nothing of the environmental effects of producing millions of the plastic glasses each year. While Cinema 3D may one day let you see Star Wars in 3D without a pair of polarized glasses blocking the view, the technology still has a long way to go. MIT reports that the current prototype works with a screen "just barely larger than a pad of paper".

The research team hopes to improve on these issues as time goes on, with the goal of one day reaching a large enough scale for movie theater auditoriums. Thus, it is enough to display a narrow range of angles and replicate it to all seats in the theater. As people get freedom from the stupid glasses now by introducing this technology the cinematic experience will become more better for the people.
