Google Play Adds Eight New Categories and Renames Two of Them
With more than 1 billion active users, Google Play continues to be an important distribution platform for developers to build a global audience.
After the facelift of Maps, seems like its Google Play’s turn. Even though users were expecting something more like an advanced search, Google Play has added 8 new categories and has renamed two of them to make it more relevant. Over the past year, Google rolled out major features, such as Search Ads, Indie Corner, store listings experiments and more. Google hopes that users will find it easier to find apps with this redesign.
The new categories include:
Art & Design
Auto & Vehicles
Beauty
Dating
Events
Food & Drink
House & Home
Parenting
Apps are going to be more discoverable which benefits both users and developers. For example, the dating app Tinder will no longer be found in Lifestyle but in Dating. Moms and dads will also be happy to see a Parenting category. The two categories that have been renamed are Transportation and Media & Video, which have become Maps & Navigation and Video Players & Editors. These newly added categories will be found in the Google Play Store within 60 days, but developers can re-categorise their apps now.
