RIP Torrentz

StartFragment

Well, it looks like the Peer to Peer(P2P) Torrent system went under a major shakedown with the torrent search engine Torrentz which went offline with its last words: ‘Torrentz will always love you. Farewell’ and two weeks before with the shutdown of KickAss torrent. KickAss torrent’s alleged founder Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland after a server was found in Chicago.

After 13 years of service, Torrentz’s services are down but the homepage with the farewell message is still on. The meta-search engine, which hosted no torrents of its own but linked to other sites including The Pirate Bay, has decided to cease its operation.

The site was moved to the .eu top-level domain after its .com was seized by the US Department of Homeland Security. The domain is also blocked in the several countries, including the UK. After this Torrentz shut down, the question that follows now is, whether any new torrent websites will follow suit and shut down their operations, being apprehensive of police arrests.

Torrentz refers to itself as: ‘Torrentz was a free and powerful meta-search engine.' Instead of ‘Torrentz is a free and powerful meta-search engine.' However, no declaration whatsoever has been made by any authority concerning why the website went down.

Has the founder been arrested? Or did it go down so that authorities cannot find the founder? Let us know your opinions in the comment section down below and follow us on social media.
