MICROS, a popular payment system gets hit with a breach, your data could be at risk
The MICROS payment system created by Oracle is a popular point-of-sale system. According to The Next Web, the company has systems in over 330,000 locations, all around the world in a total of 180 countries.
TNW reports about a source telling "Krebs On Security" that there could be "up to 700" affected systems in several locations. The blame is being pointed towards a known group of hackers that call themselves the "Carbanak Gang". Oracle is asking their users to change their account's username and password if they have a MICROS account. Oracle hasn't been very public on this issue, really only telling us they found bad code, but not how deep into the system it got.
The hackers code "set up" camp in one of MICRO's portals, so when someone logged in it gave their information directly to the hackers. If your local Starbucks or IHOP lets you know there has been an issue this could be it, we just don't know the severity of the situation yet.
