Black Berry's main focus in mobiles is security. If they can't promote any other features, it has to be all about security, and the DTEK50 and Priv are just that.

The BlackBerry DTEK50 and Priv were the first of all their Android smartphones to be vulnerable to the Qualcomm-based Quadrooter, and now they have been patched. The update will be sent to users in the week and it can be installed from the settings menu. It will be accessible to new devices bought from ShopBlackBerry.

In Google's September Android Security Bulletin, they stated they wouldn't drop a patch of its own, but for David Kleidermacher, the Chief Security Officer, it wasn't good enough.

The BlackBerry Chief Security Officer, David Kleidermacher said, "Some critical Android vulnerabilities — for example, one that can be easily and remotely exploited with a publicly disclosed method to execute ‘root’ privileged malware — simply can’t wait for a monthly update cycle."

On an Inside BlackBerry post, Director of Security Alex Manea wrote that it's necessary for BlackBerry to show its commitment to its hardware despite the DTEK50 and Priv are already protected from the Quadrooter hole with their secure boot chain.

The patch was released a few days ago for users to purchase from ShopBlackBerry.com. The rollout is expected to begin sometime this week for BlackBerry's partners.
