Qualcomm has finally released more details about its new Flagship Snapdragon 821 Chip that was first revealed back in July. The processor is an iterative update, however there are improvements in terms of performance, with boot times, app loading and overall performance up to 10 percent faster.
There are new UI optimizations as well, that brings "smoother scrolling and more responsive browsing performance," according to Qualcomm. The Adreno GPU performance is also up five percent and there is some better battery optimizations, so your phone's battery should last about 5 percent longer.
Google's Daydream VR system is also compatible with the new processor, though that's not a surprise considering that Snapdragon 820 devices are also compatible. VR developers will soon get a easier process to make content for Daydream that is optimized for the new processor as Qualcomm is releasing an SDK that "supports a superior level of visual and audio quality and more immersive virtual reality and gaming experiences,"
Some new Camera capabilities include Dual Phase Detection Auto Focus for speedier focusing and improved Laser Focus accuracy. The first smartphone to get the chip, the ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe, has both laser and dual PDAF, both of which boast .03 second autofocus times. Qualcomm didn't announce any other new devices with the processor, but with IFA just starting, we could hear more news shortly.
