Samsung´s new smartwatches is a big leap forward compared to the Gear S2

Samsung’s last smartwatch, Gear S2 wasn’t the best smartwatch ever, but it was far better than Samsung’s smartwatches before the S2. At the IFA event, Samsung announced their new watch Gear S3. And I think S3 is more beautiful than ever and I see forward how it can stand against all the Android Wear watches on the market.

The names for the devices is Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and S3 Classic. The most different thing between them both is their look and feel. The Classic should look more like a traditional watch. Like the S2, Samsung´s new wearables remains the rotating bezel. When you rotate the bezel you navigate through the Tizen OS. You can buy it with several different wrist straps and colours, so you can customise it to fit your outfit. The body is made of 316L Stainless Steel. There Back and Home buttons are knurled, so it will be easier to find them.

Both versions are IP68 rated, which mean that you can take a shower with your watch or be outside while raining. You can also take short baths, but it´s not recommended to do that, especially if you have a leather strap. The 1,3-inch screen should be scratch resistant with panes of Gorilla Glass SR+. Both devices also have 786MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, built-in GPS, dual-core Exynos chipset and a 380 mAh battery. Samsung says the battery will last in about three to four days of normal usage. That’s pretty good for a smartwatch, but not the best of all smartwatches.

There is just one size on the watch 46mm, and that’s pretty disappointing. For people with small wrists, this watch may feel a little bit big and heavy. Other brands like Motorola is offering two different sizes on their smartwatches and I thought Samsung also would do that, but they didn’t. You can attach a 22mm watch strap on both Frontier and Classic.

Except for design, the connectivity is the only thing which differs from Frontier and Classic. The frontier supports Bluetooth, WiFi and it also has an LTE radio, while the Classic just has Bluetooth and WiFi. Frontier will also come with a built-in speaker and microphone for calls.

Like the S2, the S3 will be able to track your workouts. So if you want, you can buy a rubber wrist strap and make your S3 sportier. But the S3 is still not a real fitness tracker, so if you want a Fitness Tracker you may look somewhere else.

Both versions will launch later this year and I´m very excited about to get hands-on to it. This watch sounds better than the last S2, but what do you think of it? Leave your comments in the comment section! Make sure to stay tuned on this website for more news from IFA 2016, Berlin!
