LG's InstaView fridge battles Samsung's Family Hub refrigerator
Samsung clearly stole the show at CES 2016 this year with the release of their Family Hub smart refrigerator, which had a giant 25.1-inch 1080p display on the right door. Well, LG is combatting that with the release of the InstaView Smart refrigerator, which is running Windows 10, and not Tizen like on the Samsung fridge.
Interestingly, the 29-inch touchscreen is also translucent, meaning that you can partly see through the display. Powering the Windows 10 display is an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM, which is interesting to say for a fridge. LG also included some custom Windows 10 apps that allow users to stick custom notes to the home screen, set a timer, add recipes and healthy information about certain meals and one app even lets the user mark certain foods that are showing through the translucent display.
Like mentioned above, LG is using the full version of Windows 10, so that means that you can download and use almost any app that is included in the App store, or downloads from Microsoft's Edge browser or your preferred browser of choice. There are also speakers on the fridge, making playing music from the fridge possible. Cortana's Voice control capability is also on board, which is a nice touch. Due to the design of Windows 10, when you're on the main home screen, it blocks out the view of the inside of the fridge. Thankfully, when you open apps, the translucent display shows through, making it easier to see the contents of the fridge again. LG isn't revealing any other details about the fridge at this moment of time, but they will be coming sometime later this year.
