Samsung orders the recall of the Galaxy Note 7
Samsung has ordered the immediate global retrieval of the Galaxy Note 7 device due to explosion of the device as a result of deficiency in the batteries of the smartphone.
"battery cell issue," 35 "cases" (of overheating, fire or explosions) have been noted so far, we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market." Samsung said.
The South Korean-based company further said, “over the coming weeks,” it will substitute and replace the sold Galaxy Note 7 from its consumers. The company affirms and NPR’s Elise Hu also reported the plans to recall the unsold Note 7 units.
Added to this development, Gizmodo Australia – an online publication site reports that the overall units sold so far is 1 million out of the 2.5 million units produced by Samsung. However, the Note 7 device supplied to China is exempted because the company used a separate battery supplier.
Meanwhile, the company has officially stopped the sale of Galaxy Note 7 while the US office is currently in operation with carrier partners in regards to a product exchange program.
Following Samsung’s recall of the device, it’s bound to suspend the intending launch of the smartphone in the European continent which is dated for September 2, according to Samsung’s German Twitter account; however, a new date will be communicated later.
Clearly, the month of September will still play host to the European launch of the Galaxy Note 7 device alongside with the iPhone 7 launch which consumers are looking forward to.
